Activity 2.3 - Biosphere and Interconnections
Concept Maps
This concept map has some of the main points from chapter 4: Units of Energy, Energy Transformations, and Energy in Ecosystems. It talks about how energy is important to the ecosystem and where to find it. (Freedman, 2018)
This concept map has some main points from chapter 7: The Value of Biodiversity and Organization of Life. It talks about biodiversity and how it affects the different organisms. (Freedman, 2018)
This concept map has some main points from chapter 8: Biomes and Ecoregions and Ecozones. It talks about the different biomes and ecozones. (Freedman, 2018)
Connections
All of these ideas and concepts are all connected because everything in nature is connected. Energy is needed to be able to keep the flow of the ecosystem. There are many different kinds of biodiverse populations in the ecosystem. We need energy from the foods we eat, and those foods are derived from biodiversity (Freedman, Ch. 7). This creates a cycle in each biome, and each biome has many different groups of organisms. From microorganisms to mammals, there are several different species in each one who need energy from biodiverse sources to survive. This makes a lot of sense because each organism needs each other to survive. Otherwise, the ecosystem would be out of balance.
Biomes and ecozones are directly connected because they appear in the same areas. As Freedman says, "The boundaries and ecozones rarely align with political borders..." (Ch. 8). This shows that biomes and ecozones are everywhere. These are very important because they host a lot of different organisms. They also support those organisms by having the right amount of energy for each one that lives in each biome. This helps us see how energy can flow through the ecosystem. It starts with one thing and then gets passed down to all of the others. This is an important aspect because it shows how each organism is able to survive based on their unique biomes.
