3.2.1 - Natural Resources Review

Interconnections

There are several connections when it comes to natural resources. This would be anything people take from the natural environment and use (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). There are many things that go under the category of natural resources. Some of those would be air, water, living things, materials inside the earth, and many more. We need natural resources to survive because you can not survive without natural resources. Renewable resources can be replaced by nature because they are renewable (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). This means that they can be rapidly replaced which is very beneficial to the environment. Some examples of this include wind, solar energy, and a few others. Nonrenewable resources can not be replaced by nature because they are not renewable (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). These resources either take a very long time to be replaced or they are gone forever. These include minerals, fossil fuels, and many others. These topics relate back to the main topic of natural resources because they are types of natural resources.
Recycling is collecting and reprocessing materials into new products that can be used again (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). Recycling is a very important process because it helps to clean up the planet and give some types of trash a way of being repurposed. Reusing is the act of using a resource over and over again in its same form (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). Some things that get recycled or reused are newspaper, glass, plastic, some metals, and so many other things. Resource sustainability involves utilizing natural resources so that they are not overused or damaged for the long term (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). This deals with overpopulation, overconsumption of resources, distribution of resources, pollution control, and many more. An unsustainable situation occurs when a natural resource is overconsumed (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). This makes it more important to get involved in resource sustainability. There are many natural resource alternatives that are around the world that both help and damage the environment. Synthetics are things that are man-made or manufactured (Narrator - Nina Keck, 2017). These may not be as good of quality as the resource they are replacing. They also might pose a threat to the environment because of discarding of them in the wrong way. The most popular of these would be plastic. These topics relate back to the main topic of natural resources because they help us to be aware of how we can help conserve these natural resources.
